Wind Power

Since wind resources are unpredictable on a daily basis, small wind generators (hundreds to thousands of watts capacity) are typically used to provide back-up power to other power generation means.  EcoGen Energy has the necessary experience with wind, electrical and tower installations for wind power.

Small wind generators tend to operate at lower altitudes of between 18 to 30 metres.  However, the wind resource in Eastern Ontario at this height is generally poor.  Exceptions do exist and need to be surveyed individually.

An interesting characteristic of wind turbines is the dramatic increase in cost-effectiveness with increased turbine size.  Larger turbines tend to cost less per watt generating capacity, last longer, and reach higher into winds that increase in speed with altitude.  Turbines that are truly cost-competitive with current prices of grid electricity are out of the reach of most homeowners – more the domain of community projects.  If wind energy interests you, EcoGen Energy can help determine the economics and feasibility of your wind project.
